Hi Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and I want to wish you a Happy New Year. We were really excited to spend some time as a new family this year, doing something relaxing in a beautiful place. We chose Big Sur because it was where Alex and I spent our first weekend together exactly three years ago. Let’s just say, things worked out. Here are some photos, if you would like to see.
More photos, if you like
We were lucky enough to find the most magical place to stay, halfway between Big Sur and Carmel. It was rustic and close to nature, and we loved it. There was also no cell phone reception, which turned out to be fantastic after I got over my initial disappointment. The property is perfect for children, and Milo loved running around in the redwoods and chasing cats. We even saw a bobcat on a hike one day near the house.(no we didn’t let him chase it.) We spent some days in Carmel at the pristine and dog friendly local beach, and Milo and Cassius had equal amounts of fun and face plants in the sand.
For Christmas, Alex got me an evening at Esalen, to enjoy a massage and the oceanside hot tubs. If you haven’t heard of the Esalen experience, you are in for a treat. A few years ago, I wanted to spend a summer there working in the gardens, but life got in my way and I never did it. To be able to visit now is a real treat. The tubs are all nude, and I wasn’t exactly prepared! I knew it was an option, but as I walked down the hill and saw the bare bodies laid out in the sun, I got a little nervous. I derobed in the co-ed changing room and strolled out to the tub, and to my relief, nobody even looked twice at me. I chatted with friendly people as we watched the sea lions and birds, then I went and had my heavenly massage. It was no big deal. I felt great after. If you have never been to a nude setting, I highly recommend it.
The rest of our trip was spent taking long walks, making food from our little cabin kitchen and spending precious time with Milo playing instruments and exploring outside. We made giant salads, and we also indulged a little. Milo’s new favorite is quinoa pasta, but the best discovery for Alex and I was sheep’s milk ice cream! Not quite as naughty as the other stuff, but even better tasting.
We are really happy to be home and feeling completely recharged after ten days in the wilderness. Tomorrow we are doing a deep cleanse day to reset our bodies, and we look forward to the gifts of 2015. Thanks for being with us!
