Last year I realized the way I was working out and eating was no longer working for me, so I decided to set a goal to get physically strong and also more mindful about the way I was eating. I started a superfood nutrition system including clean, low-glycemic organic fork and knife food, along with high quality supplements and super nutrient packed protein shakes to make sure I was getting all of the trace minerals our food supply is often lacking these days and also to make sure I was getting enough protein to build lean muscle. I also started doing deep cellular cleanses for 1-2 days at a time to clear out all the toxins we accumulate from the environment and more easily absorb all of the new vitamins and minerals I was eating. Let’s just say, that alone completely changed my physique and how I was feeling and making these changes was easy. What was not easy was finding a strength training program I could stick to.
I am not a weight room kind of girl. I would rather run 6 miles on a treadmill than step into the weight room but this mentality was no longer serving me. The strength I was looking to develop was not only for me but for the body I wanted and needed to be able to keep up and carry my toddler, and maybe house another child in the future. After my first pregnancy I realized all of my weak areas caused me aches and pains and made me want to sit on the sidelines more than I would like. I needed a program that would get me strong and I didn’t see any other way it would work unless there was some kind of end goal in sight. That’s when I found Cathy Savage. Cathy Savage has created a sisterhood of fitness competitors. She helps women from any background get in the best shape of their life either form an online program or in person in her studio in Boston. I have met “Savage Sisters” before and they are nothing short of incredible women with laundry lists of accomplishments and goals, and most importantly uplifting attitudes.
Two months ago I began my Cathy Savage training program and I am already doing pushups with ease and multiple pull-ups, things I could never do. My coach, Nichole, has mapped out a nutrient rich diet which contains more food than I have ever eaten in my life yet it seems to get used as fuel right away and my energy is through the roof. I am pleasantly surprised and very excited to be on my way to my first fitness competition in May. At the beginning I thought about quitting several times when I looked at my training program and didn’t have any idea what half of the exercises were, but Youtube is a fantastic source and I persevered.
This lifestyle still takes some getting used to and there have been some very early mornings at the gym but I cannot wait to be on stage with my other Savage Sisters in May to celebrate all of our hard work. More to come on this one! What would you like to hear about?
