What nobody reveals about perfection

1/13/18

Perfectly ImperfectElizabeth Gilbert says perfection is the haute couture version of fear. It’s fear that’s all wrapped up in a pretty little package, always wanting to do the right thing even if it betrays it’s person’s own beating heart. It’s denial we are in fear.

I”m a recovering perfectionist. Perfection propelled me through bad diets( aren’t they all bad?), unhealthy relationships, anxiety, and worst of all an inability to truly see my full, imperfect self and have a positive relationship with that woman.

In my mid 20’s something came knocking on my door trying to deliver a message that there was a different path for me than the life I was leading. I was a girl who lost her way when she left college to pursue fashion modeling and ended up with an eating disorder and a boyfriend who wasn’t so good to her. Of course, like any sane woman trying to look perfect on the outside I slammed the door on that voice and continued painting the illusion to myself and others that I was happy, fulfilled and on the path of my life’s purpose as I tagged along with my boyfriend to his nightclubs ( really? I would rather have been in the woods with no tent) and lived in his big house. The messenger continued to come around every so often to remind me a different life was out there waiting for me. Panic attacks crept in, depression engulfed me and the boyfriend and his big boat with my name on the back started to feel like the last human on earth I’d want to be seated with at the dinner table. But I was terrified of leaving. [Read more…]

The ten minute morning routine that made me a happier person

6/14/17

Who doesn’t love some Oprah and Tony Robbins? Since I attended Unleash the Power Within, which is one of Tony’s signature events, I have been putting this to practice and it has truly made every day better. I have only missed two days since February and continue to grow daily. I don’t know about you, but I used to have a morning practice/ meditation routine that took 20-40 minutes. Once two children were in my home that was just not sustainable so I did nothing. That did not equal a happy mama! I love this so much because it’s effective yet so convenient and doable before my kiddos get out of bed. I hope you love it as much as I do.

How she does it: Signe Nordstrom

1/22/15

SigneApril2013_Banner-670x300

I was lucky enough to get to know Signe Nordstrom when I moved to her block in New York City over five years ago. I had known of her for years, mostly because she always seemed to get all the modeling jobs I wanted for myself! I finally met her at a casting one day, and the beautiful face I had seen on the pages, came to life, and in no small way. Part of me didn’t want to like her, but Signe has one of the biggest and brightest personalities I have ever known, and I couldn’t help but fall for her immediately. Signe is always teaching me lessons in personal development, and I admire the way she always strives to grow. From her yoga and meditation practice to her thriving modeling career and work with young girls, Signe is an inspiration.  I”m so excited to introduce her as first of what I hope to be many outstanding women who share their secrets on how they do life.

Hi Signe. Where are you from, and where do you call home now?

I was born and raised on a organic farm in Sweden. These days I call New York and Gothenburg (Sweden) home and I split time between them.

You travel often, and I know how important it is to stay healthy with all of those flights. Would you share with us your self-care regimen?  [Read more…]
