Hi Everyone. Several years ago, I was sitting at a restaurant speaking with some guests my partner at the time and I were hosting from out of town. I had never met them before, but I quickly learned they were foreigners and masters of mind performance. Amongst other handy mind hacks, they introduced me to this memory trick I have used time and time again, for anything like a shopping list I was too lazy to write down, or an essay test in school I needed to recall several things we had learned in class. You could use it any time you need to remember a list of up to ten things. Here’s how it works- memorize this one list below, and you can use the trick forever. It’s so easy. Read on if you would like to learn how it works. Just remember the number and the item rhyme.
Now, for the first item on your list, imagine it with a gun, the second with a shoe, the third with a tree, etc. For example, say you are memorizing your shopping list and you need yogurt, carrots, celery and steak. The gun may be covered in yogurt, a bunch of carrots may be stuffed in a shoe, a tree may have branches of celery and you may picture a door of steak. Just go through your list one by one and sit with your mental image of the two items together, and you are all set. You never need your iPhone at the store again! I also find it handy for remembering all of the things I need to pack in the diaper bag before I leave the house. Have fun!
